On behalf of the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) we welcome you to join us in Adelaide for the 54th ASMR National Scientific Conference (NSC) titled Bugs Bowels and Beyond: Innovations in Digestive Health and Disease Research.

This meeting will bring together scientists, clinicians and health professionals with a wide-ranging focus on conditions affecting the digestive tract with an opportunity to discuss an interwoven theme of the role of the intestinal microbiota. Leading this discussion will be the presenters of the ASMR Firkin and Edwards Orations, who are pre-eminent scientists in the fields of microbiota, inflammatory bowel diseases and neurogastroenterology.

Our exciting program includes presentations from leading Australian researchers and will cover a number of themes including, but not limited to, the role of the microbiome in inflammation, obesity and nutrition, upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers, inflammatory bowel conditions, pancreatic and liver diseases and linkages between the gut, brain and biota. The concept of ASMR’s NSCs is based on the highly successful Gordon conferences, which typically bring together researchers in an intimate forum to foster communication, networking and collaboration. In addition, there will be a professional development workshop for early and mid-career researchers, as well as a student breakfast and conference.

This conference will be an opportunity to interact with like-minded scientists on this exploding area of research whilst enjoying the food and wine that South Australia is famous for. We look forward to meeting you in Adelaide (The Festival City).

Yours sincerely
